A Current Crisis in Missions

6/16/2020

There are between 450,000 and 500,000 full-time occupational missionaries on the globe. This does NOT include pastors or church staff. There maybe up to 600,000 if we consider the few thousand unknown cases of missionaries in poorer regions where there are no records of their work. Let’s assume there are a lot more than recorded and round that number to 1 million. There are close to 7 billion people on the earth with about 550-650 million evangelical, born again Christians. Each person that this number accounts for, has the job of reaching the other 6.5 billion unbelieving people. Do these numbers seem waaaaaay off to you? They should. This basically comes down to only 1/5th of 1 percent of the Body of Christ is presently engaged in full-time missions.

From Drugs to Disciple-Maker

I began a new coaching relationship today with an SRC colleague in South Asia (via phone and video conferencing) and for security sake, I will call him Isaac.

Isaac's community is predominantly Hindu. His parents found the Lord but Isaac rebelled and did not give his life to Christ as a teenager. After becoming strung out on alcohol and drugs, his mom calmly pleaded with him to give his life to Jesus. That night he prayed with his parents and repented of his sins.

The Unexpected Catalyst

We had another wonderful time of fellowship in our Discipleship Zoom group today.

Last week, I introduced the Church Circle, a teaching tool that covers the basics of being a disciple as well as a church. Going forward, we will dive into each of these topics with the goal of modeling how each of the group members can start a group and go through the same study with existing or new believers.

Today, we focused on the Good News. I learned that one of the students learned that there is no end in sight for their lockdown on campus. They were expecting to be able to get off campus soon but was told it could be months. He can only leave for two hours twice a week so our group is planning to do lunch with him soon and he was very excited about that. Despite this news that was really crushing to hear, he had the opportunity to share the Gospel with one of the students on his campus. This same student recently started a new Discipleship group on his campus.

The following is a prayer by a Malawian brother. His audio prayer is above in the Chichewa language of Malawi.

Our heavenly Father we come to you in the name of Jesus Christ.

We thank you that you are the God who created all peoples on earth. Lord, your passion is for all peoples to know, love and worship you.

We thank you for the privilege of knowing you here in Malawi. But, our worry now is for those who don't know you yet, especially those who reside in the 10/40.

The following prayer is prayed by Aasim.

Lord, I thank you that you are a merciful and gracious God. You shine the sun and send rain upon both the just and the unjust alike.

You love even those who don't know you and worship idols as gods, for your mercy endures forever. Your arms are always open to receive them as your prodigal son because there is no sin too great for you to forgive and its never too late even for the biggest sinner to come to you.

The Backbone of South Asia

5/19/2020

Day laborers in South Asia. They are a wonderful, hardworking group of people numbered in the millions who are often overlooked, underpaid, and regarded as the lesser within society.

Many have families whom they have left behind at their rural homes to find work in the larger cities. Some bring their families with them in two. But, no matter their individual circumstance, to say their life is challenging is a gross understatement.

They are the backbone of economic success across South Asia. Without them, the middle and upper classes would not enjoy their lifestyles as much as they like to think. Why? Because the day laborers are the ones who clean the streets, clean the homes of the wealthy, work in jobs that pay minimally, dive into sewer pits to clean out our crap….literally, and do all the jobs most of us would not be caught dead doing. South Asia desperately needs these workers yet they are the ones most negatively affected when a crisis hits, like COVID-19.

English Synopsis

May the Lord open the hearts and minds of the Muslim people. I pray that the love of God reaches their hearts and their lives. May they dream dreams of you Jesus, see visions, and the Word of God in their dreams.

I pray for the hearts of Muslims in Central Asia to be opened for the Gospel. May they have a revelation of the blood of Jesus and understand that their sins are forgiven. May the enlightenment come to them.

Many people are fasting and praying for them now that You will be revealed to them! As God opened the heart of Lydia of Thyatira so their hearts will be opened.

May the Lord remove every obstacle between Him and them and the love of God melt their hearts.
And we will see the glory of God!
