Nathu and Maya left their mountain village 5 years ago with their three little kids. Unable to support their family in the village, they ended up in the capital city working at a carpet factory. Nathu used alcohol to run away from his problems which ultimately created family trouble. Quarreling with Maya became the norm and their children’s demeanor grew worse over time. It’s clear they were no longer a happy family. During the pandemic, SRC delivered relief packages to the carpet factory workers. Nathu and Maya were one of the recipients and became overwhelmed with emotions when given the food, as did their kids. But, they were not interested in learning about Christ. Now let’s move forward to 2022. The SRC team went back to the factor and invited the children to a special Easter program. Nathu and Maya’s kids were so excited to see our team again that they became the unintentional advocates for the Easter program, inviting all the children and their parents to attend. Mind you, the parents were hesitant to attend but they did. And, these advocates were Buddhist, not Christians.
The Easter program was a hit. Everyone perked up as Ezra, SRC’s regional leader in South Asia, taught from the Bible, explained the death and resurrection of Christ, and shared the gospel. In the end, 40 children and adults gave their lives to Christ. This included Nathu and Maya and their three kids. Until that day, Nathu, Maya, and the others present lacked gospel access. To help paint the picture, Nathu and Maya were born and raised in a Buddhist village where there are no Christians. If they had not left their village and family, they would still be lost today. Yet through the efforts of my colleagues, gospel access was granted. The gospel was declared. And, hearts were touched by the Holy Spirit and redeemed. These moments become reality because of those who partner with us. Without our partners, we are unable to travel and gain access to those who need gospel access. In fact, 47,000 people die daily never hearing the gospel, not because the Christian next door didn’t share it with them, but because their community had no one present to share it in the first place. For the sake of the gospel and because of the Gospel-Deprived, I invite you to be part of what God is doing through Silk Road Catalyst, delivering the gospel to the Gospel-Deprived.
